Our department has recently been called to respond to fires on private property. Some of these were controlled burns. These types of calls, while well intended, often result in volunteer fire departments attributing resources, time and energy towards non-incidents. This type of confusion can easily be prevented if members of our community call the Sheriff’s office to alert them of the location and time of their controlled burns. This way, when a citizen reports a fire, based on location and time, the county will know whether to respond or not.
